Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has received approval from FIFA to represent Nigeria Football Federation. The decision, recorded on April 6, 2026, allows the 24-year-old to switch allegiance from England. He made the request earlier in the year to boost his international career.
Okonkwo Completes Nationality Switch
FIFA officially updated Okonkwo’s status on its Change of Association register. As a result, his affiliation now belongs to Nigeria instead of England.
Although he played for England at youth level, he never earned a senior cap. Therefore, FIFA rules allowed him to switch nationality.
Journey from Arsenal to Wrexham
Okonkwo developed at Arsenal FC, where he featured for youth teams, including the Under-18 side.
Later, he joined Wrexham AFC on loan in 2023. He impressed during that spell at the Stok Cae Ras. Consequently, the club signed him permanently in 2024.
Since then, he has become Wrexham’s first-choice goalkeeper in the EFL Championship.
