Tinubu Criticises Opposition, Reaffirms Nigeria’s Economic Strength Ahead of 2027

By Elizabeth Ugbo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja criticised opposition politicians, reaffirmed Nigeria’s economic potential, and defended his governance approach while hosting a delegation from Enugu State led by Governor Peter Mbah at the State House.

Tinubu Highlights Nigeria’s Economic Leadership

Tinubu stated that Nigeria remains a leading force in Africa despite economic challenges. He noted that growth indices still place the country ahead of many peers on the continent.

According to him, contributions from leaders across sectors continue to sustain national progress. He stressed that economic success depends on consistent collaboration and commitment.

Call for Collective Governance Efforts

The President emphasised that national development requires joint efforts at all levels of government. He urged stronger engagement, especially at the local government level.

He explained that governance cannot succeed as a one-person effort. Instead, he encouraged synergy between federal, state, and local authorities.

Mbah Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Governor Mbah assured Tinubu of Enugu State’s support for his 2027 re-election bid. In response, Tinubu welcomed the endorsement and described the governor as part of the progressive political family.

He expressed confidence that Nigeria’s aspirations are achievable through unity and shared vision.

Commitment to National Prosperity

Tinubu reiterated his administration’s determination to deliver economic growth and national prosperity. He acknowledged existing challenges but maintained that progress remains steady.

He said the government is navigating difficult conditions while working toward long-term stability. He added that the administration will steer the country toward economic success.

Tinubu Dismisses Political Pressure

During a separate meeting with Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Hope Uzodimma, Tinubu dismissed growing opposition pressure ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stated that political intimidation would not deter his focus. He urged supporters to remain committed and ignore distractions.

Focus on Long-Term Economic Planning

The President criticised past approaches to financing national projects. He explained that short-term funding cannot sustain long-term development goals.

He emphasised the need for strategic planning and sustainable investment to drive economic transformation.

Criticism of Power Sector Reforms

Tinubu also faulted previous decisions in the electricity sector. He said earlier privatisation efforts failed to deliver reliable power supply.

However, he assured Nigerians that his administration is working to rebuild the sector and improve electricity access.

Democracy Will Endure, Tinubu Insists

Tinubu maintained that democracy in Nigeria will continue to thrive despite political tension. He accused some opposition figures of undermining democratic values.

He encouraged focus on governance and public welfare, stressing that results will speak louder than criticism.

Key Delegation Members Present

The Enugu delegation included notable figures such as Ken Nnamani, Sullivan Chime, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Jim Nwobodo, among others.
