The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has adopted Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in Gombe, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, where party leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders agreed on candidates to strengthen unity and prepare for the polls.
Stakeholders Unite Behind Consensus Candidates
The session drew wide participation from governorship aspirants, National Assembly hopefuls, and State Assembly contenders. Members of the State Working Committee, party elders, and key stakeholders also attended.
In addition, North-East zonal officials and other senior party figures were present. Their participation reflected strong party coordination across levels.
How the Consensus Decision Emerged
According to party sources, leaders reached the decision after extensive consultations. Governor Yahaya led the process and engaged stakeholders at multiple levels.
The consultations involved aspirants, party members, and grassroots leaders. As a result, the party reduced internal disputes and built stronger cohesion.
Moreover, the strategy aims to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senate and Legislative Candidates Confirmed
During the meeting, stakeholders also ratified consensus candidates for key legislative positions.
For the Senate:
- Mohammed Deba will represent Gombe Central
- Jerry Damara will represent Gombe South
- Governor Muhammadu Yahaya is listed for Gombe North
Furthermore, the party confirmed candidates for six House of Representatives seats and all 24 State House of Assembly constituencies.
Strategy to Strengthen APC Structure
Party insiders described the move as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate unity. The governor has consistently convened strategic meetings to reinforce party structure.
Therefore, this latest development builds on earlier engagements aimed at stabilising the APC in Gombe State.
Political Implications Ahead of 2027
The adoption of consensus candidates signals a clear strategy. The APC seeks to minimise conflict and maximise electoral strength.
Consequently, the party now positions itself as organised and prepared for the 2027 elections.
