Bayo Onanuga, Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Saturday criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress over its missing manifesto. He accused the party of lacking a clear governance plan for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. Onanuga made the remarks in a statement sent to News Point Nigeria while reacting to the growing popularity of the party following the defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Onanuga Describes NDC as Directionless
Onanuga described the NDC as “a camp for the politically displaced and desperate.” He argued that the party lacked a unique vision for Nigeria’s governance.
According to him, the NDC differs little from the African Democratic Congress. He insisted that both parties have failed to present concrete plans to Nigerians.
“Like ADC, the NDC has no plan for Nigeria yet,” Onanuga stated.
Failed Manifesto Download Raises Questions
Onanuga revealed that he visited the NDC website twice in recent days. He said he wanted to confirm whether the party had a stronger governance agenda than President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, he expressed disappointment after attempting to download the party’s manifesto.
“‘No document found’ was the response I got each time I tried to download the manifesto,” he said.
He also questioned why the NDC had not uploaded a manifesto since receiving court registration in February.
Onanuga Criticises NDC Policy Pillars
The presidential spokesman further claimed that the NDC website only displayed six policy nuggets described as pillars.
According to him, the ideas lacked depth and clarity. He argued that they sounded similar to messages repeatedly promoted by Peter Obi in recent years.
Despite his criticism, Onanuga said he still expects the NDC to unveil a detailed vision and mission before the 2027 elections.
NDC Gains Attention After Obi, Kwankwaso Defections
The NDC has recently gained political attention following the defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.
Meanwhile, Senator Seriake Dickson, identified as the party’s national leader, earlier declared that the NDC would fight an ideological battle in the 2027 elections.
Onanuga, however, believes the party must first present a clear manifesto and practical governance blueprint to Nigerians.
