The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Abuja, extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest forms for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly aspirants. The party announced the extension through its National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu (Esq.), to accommodate more aspirants and improve inclusivity. The decision affects candidates across Nigeria ahead of the 2026 election cycle, as the party also set new screening timelines and reinforced its affirmative action policy to guide candidate selection.
Deadline Extension for Expression of Interest Forms
The NDC moved the earlier deadline from Sunday, May 17, 2026, to Sunday, May 24, 2026. The party stated that no further extension will follow this new date. It urged all aspirants to complete their applications within the revised timeline.
In addition, the party confirmed that the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the Office of the President has closed. This marks a key milestone in its internal election process.
Screening and Pre-Qualification Schedule
The screening of aspirants begins on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. It will run until Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at designated centres nationwide. The process will include pre-qualification interviews for all cleared aspirants.
Aspirants must present themselves physically for screening. They must also comply with all documentation requirements without exception.
Required Documents for Aspirants
All candidates must submit six copies of each document. Required items include:
- Educational certificates
- Birth certificate or sworn age declaration
- Four recent passport photographs
- Voter’s identification card
- NDC membership card
- Curriculum vitae
