A man opened fire on Secret Service officers at a White House security checkpoint in Washington, DC, on Saturday evening at about 6pm (22:00 GMT). The incident occurred at the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue after the suspect, who had reportedly ignored a stay-away order, approached the area with a concealed weapon in a bag and began shooting. Secret Service agents returned fire, killing the suspect, while a bystander suffered injuries. President Donald Trump remained inside the White House and stayed unharmed during the attack.

The suspect arrived at the checkpoint near the White House perimeter.
He carried a firearm hidden inside a bag.
He then drew the weapon and opened fire on officers.
