President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Children’s Day assured Nigerians that his administration would intensify efforts to rescue abducted children and teachers in Oyo and Borno states. He made the promise on Tuesday during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, which coincided with Eid-el-Kabir. Tinubu also announced stronger school security measures, improved rescue operations, and better rehabilitation support for victims of abduction across Nigeria.
Tinubu Celebrates Nigerian Children
The President praised Nigerian children for their courage, creativity, and determination despite growing national challenges.
He celebrated children excelling in academics, learning vocational skills, and living with disabilities while remaining hopeful.
According to him, Nigerian children represent the nation’s future and deserve protection, quality education, and equal opportunities.
Tinubu said the 2026 Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” reflects the need to create opportunities for every child today.
President Speaks on Abducted Children in Oyo and Borno
Tinubu expressed concern over children and teachers currently in captivity in Oyo and Borno states.
He stated that many families could not celebrate Children’s Day because they remained worried about their missing children.
The President assured affected families that the Federal Government would continue rescue operations until security agencies safely recover the victims.
“You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned,” Tinubu told the kidnapped children and their families.
FG Intensifies Rescue Operations Nationwide
Furthermore, Tinubu directed all security agencies to strengthen coordinated rescue missions across the country.
He said the operations must remain intelligence-driven and focus on the safe recovery of abducted children and vulnerable citizens.
The President also warned criminals involved in kidnappings that authorities would bring them to justice.
Federal Government Strengthens School Security
Tinubu announced fresh measures to improve security around schools in vulnerable communities.
The measures include updated school vulnerability mapping and stronger collaboration between state governments and security agencies.
In addition, schools will establish rapid response systems and community-based early warning networks.
The President directed the Federal Ministry of Education and state governments to fully implement the Safe Schools framework.
According to him, schools in high-risk areas must understand emergency procedures and security contacts during threats.
Support for Victims of Abduction and Violence
Tinubu stressed that rescue operations alone are not enough.
He explained that children returning from captivity require medical care, counselling, education, and proper reintegration support.
As a result, he instructed relevant ministries and agencies to provide long-term rehabilitation for rescued children.
Communities Must Help Protect Children
The President urged parents, teachers, religious leaders, youth groups, transport unions, and community leaders to support child protection efforts.
He noted that communities must quickly report suspicious movements around schools and public spaces.
Tinubu added that early information sharing could prevent attacks and save lives.
Therefore, the government plans to strengthen cooperation between local communities and security agencies nationwide.
Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Child Welfare
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a safer environment for Nigerian children.
He said the government continues investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, social protection, and digital skills development.
Tinubu maintained that every Nigerian child deserves the right to safety, learning, and a brighter future.
“To our children, your dreams matter. Your safety matters. Your future matters,” he stated.
