Trump to Nominate Former Personal Lawyer Todd Blanche as Permanent Attorney General

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to nominate Todd Blanche as the permanent Attorney General of the United States. Trump made the announcement on Wednesday during a White House dinner in Washington, D.C. He revealed that the formal nomination would be submitted on Thursday. Blanche, who currently serves as acting Attorney General, is Trump’s former personal lawyer and has led the Justice Department since the dismissal of Pam Bondi.

Trump Confirms Blanche’s Nomination

Trump disclosed his decision in a video shared by Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino.

“Tomorrow, I’m instructing that we are going to make him permanent attorney general,” Trump said in the clip.

The announcement comes weeks after Trump removed former Attorney General Pam Bondi. Her exit followed criticism over her handling of investigative files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Controversial Compensation Fund Dropped

Meanwhile, Blanche recently oversaw a controversial proposal involving a $1.8 billion compensation fund.

The fund emerged as part of a settlement linked to a lawsuit Trump filed against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Critics described the proposal as a potential “slush fund” that could benefit Trump’s political allies.

In addition, an addendum to the settlement restricted the IRS from pursuing back-tax investigations against Trump.

However, Blanche informed Congress on Tuesday that the compensation fund would not proceed. Despite that decision, protections preventing IRS investigations into Trump would remain in effect.

Blanche’s Actions at the Justice Department

Since assuming leadership of the Justice Department, Blanche has taken several high-profile actions.

Notably, he has pursued legal cases involving individuals viewed by Trump as political opponents. Among them is former FBI Director James Comey.

His tenure has attracted significant attention from lawmakers and political observers. Supporters argue he is implementing the administration’s agenda. Critics, however, have questioned the independence of the Justice Department under his leadership.

Senate Confirmation Process Awaits

Blanche’s nomination will require Senate confirmation before he can officially assume the role on a permanent basis.

The confirmation process is expected to draw intense scrutiny due to his close relationship with Trump and his recent decisions while serving as acting Attorney General.
