ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard) and Important Local Street 5 (ILS5) in Katampe District, Abuja. The project, executed by CGC Nigeria Limited within seven months, aims to improve connectivity, boost economic activities, enhance security, and accelerate development across Katampe, Mabushi, and surrounding districts.

Road Project Improves Connectivity Across Abuja

The 3.9-kilometre dual carriageway links Katampe and Mabushi to major roads, including Yemi Osinbajo Way and Wole Soyinka Way. These routes connect directly to the Outer Northern (Murtala Mohammed/Kubwa) Expressway.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the commissioning ceremony.

The President described the project as more than an engineering achievement. He said it demonstrates the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

“A road like CN2 is more than concrete. It represents hope and proves that government can deliver,” Tinubu said.

Solar Streetlights Strengthen Security

President Tinubu said the installation of solar-powered streetlights has transformed Katampe at night.

According to him, the lighting has improved security by eliminating criminal hideouts. It has also revived Abuja’s nightlife.

He urged residents to protect the infrastructure by avoiding vandalism and paying taxes and ground rents promptly.

The President also warned against converting pedestrian walkways into markets.

Tinubu Commends Wike for Delivering Results

President Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for delivering visible infrastructure projects.

He said Wike has fulfilled the mandate to transform Abuja into a modern capital city.

The President highlighted several completed projects, including new roads, water schemes, and judicial housing.

“You do not give excuses; you give results,” Tinubu told the minister.

Wike Says Road Will Boost Economic Growth

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the road has already attracted private investments into Katampe.

He noted that developers have started constructing residential estates and commercial buildings. The project has also created employment opportunities for engineers and local workers.

Wike thanked President Tinubu for his continued support. He also praised Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCDA engineering team, and the National Assembly for supporting infrastructure delivery.

He announced that the FCT Administration will commission a major water supply project in Karu on Monday.

FCDA Highlights Project Features

FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the administration awarded the contract in November 2025.

He explained that the six-lane road features two carriageways separated by a two-metre median.

The project also includes underground drainage, water pipelines, sewer systems, telecommunication ducts, solar streetlights, pedestrian walkways, and landscaped green verges.

Dauda added that the project reduced travel time, improved security, and strengthened connections between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama, and neighbouring communities.

Contractor Celebrates Early Completion

China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC) Managing Director, Mr. Lv Haiming, said the company completed the project within seven months.

He thanked President Tinubu, the FCT Administration, and local communities for their cooperation.

Haiming also said the company prioritised employing Nigerian workers and training young engineers throughout the project.
