President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage Muhammad I, on his 70th birthday, celebrated on June 22, 2026. The President paid tribute to the monarch in a goodwill message, praising his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary, traditional leadership, and national development. Tinubu highlighted the Emir’s achievements as the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs and his role in promoting peace, justice, and unity across the country.
Distinguished Career in the Judiciary
President Tinubu described Justice Sidi Bage as an exceptional jurist whose legal career spanned several decades.
The Emir served as a Judge of the High Court before advancing to the Court of Appeal. He later reached the highest judicial office as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
According to the President, Justice Bage demonstrated excellence, integrity, and professionalism throughout his years on the bench.
Remarkable Seven-Year Reign in Lafia
Tinubu also commended the Emir’s leadership since ascending the throne on March 26, 2019.
Justice Bage became the 17th Emir of Lafia after succeeding the late Dr. Isa Mustapha Agwai, one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers.
The President noted that the Emir has introduced innovative ideas that have strengthened peace, justice, and development within the Lafia Emirate.
Promoting Unity and Community Development
The President praised the monarch’s commitment to interfaith harmony, education, and community growth.
He stated that the Emir has consistently supported initiatives that encourage peaceful coexistence among different religious and ethnic groups.
Furthermore, Tinubu acknowledged the Emir’s efforts in advancing social and economic development across Nasarawa State.
Leadership Beyond the Emirate
As Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, Justice Bage has played a key role in fostering unity among traditional institutions.
The President said the Emir’s influence extends beyond Nasarawa State and contributes to stability across Nigeria’s North-Central region.
Religious Contributions Recognised
Tinubu also highlighted the Emir’s role as the Grand Khalif of the Tijaniyyah Sufi Order in Nasarawa State.
He noted that the traditional ruler successfully combines his royal responsibilities with religious leadership.

The President expressed gratitude for the Emir’s friendship, support, and cooperation over the years.
He described their relationship as one built on mutual respect and shared commitment to national progress.
