Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to 2,000 women petty traders in Jigawa State. She announced the grant on Monday during her one-day official visit to the state at the palace of the Emir of Hadejia, HRH Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje. The initiative will provide N50,000 to each beneficiary to strengthen small businesses and improve livelihoods across the state.
Small Businesses Drive Sustainable Development
Mrs Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to promoting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs). She described the sector as a key driver of sustainable economic growth and job creation in Nigeria.
According to her, empowering women entrepreneurs will strengthen local economies and improve household incomes. She added that the recapitalisation grant will help beneficiaries expand their businesses and become more financially independent.
Food Bank Programme for North-West
During the visit, the First Lady will also launch the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West zone.
The initiative aims to improve food access for vulnerable families while supporting ongoing efforts to reduce food insecurity across the region.
Jigawa Unveils Key Development Projects
In addition, Mrs Tinubu is expected to inaugurate major projects executed by the Jigawa State Government. They include the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy and the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic.
The projects are designed to improve access to quality education and healthcare for residents of the state.
Commitment to Women and Economic Growth
The N100 million grant reflects the First Lady’s continued efforts to empower women and promote entrepreneurship. The programme also highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting grassroots businesses and driving inclusive economic development across Nigeria.
