Senator Ekperike Ekpo led the Federal Government delegation to Bille Community alongside the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and representatives of oil and gas operating companies.

Before arriving in Bille, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to discuss the emergency response and long-term plans.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara praised the collaboration between the Federal Government, the NUPRC, and industry stakeholders.

He assured the people of Bille that authorities would address their concerns without delay.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s support for efforts to safeguard the community and restore normalcy.

NUPRC Begins Scientific Investigation

Speaking during the visit, NUPRC Commission Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan said the Commission had already completed preliminary investigations.

She explained that experts are managing the affected area carefully to prevent additional risks before any major intervention begins.

According to her, the NUPRC has engaged an international firm to determine the exact source of the gas seepage.

“We have carried out preliminary investigations. However, we are carefully managing the situation to prevent further hazards before any intervention. We have engaged an international firm to undertake the final studies, with fieldwork expected to commence before the end of July,” she said.

Relief for Affected Residents

The Federal Government also provided immediate humanitarian assistance to residents affected by the gas seepage.

Officials assured the community that emergency support would continue while experts complete their investigation and recommend permanent solutions.

The authorities expressed confidence that the scientific study would guide appropriate intervention measures and improve safety in the community.
