The Federal Government has opened a portal for 250,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to receive free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) business name registration. The initiative, launched under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), is available nationwide. Eligible entrepreneurs can apply online through the SMEDAN portal by completing their profiles and meeting the registration requirements before the available slots are filled.

The programme aims to support entrepreneurs by removing the cost of business name registration. It also seeks to encourage more Nigerians to formalise their businesses and gain access to opportunities available to registered enterprises.
Interested applicants must complete the registration process through the official SMEDAN portal.
How to Apply
Applicants should follow these steps:
- Visit the SMEDAN portal at https://portal.smedan.gov.ng.
- Create an account using a valid email address and phone number.
- Verify the email address and log in to the dashboard.
- Complete the personal and business profile with accurate information.
- Submit the application to obtain a SMEDAN Unique Identification Number (SUIN).
- Follow the instructions to complete the free CAC business name registration.
- Download the CAC Business Name Certificate after approval.

- National Identification Number (NIN)
- Valid phone number
- Active email address
- Proposed business name
- Business address
- Business description

The Federal Government said the programme is limited to 250,000 businesses across Nigeria. Therefore, eligible entrepreneurs are encouraged to complete their applications as early as possible before the available slots are exhausted.
