The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stepped down from his position with immediate effect. Kalanjeni announced the decisions through two separate letters made available to journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday. He cited personal reasons for leaving the party and administrative challenges for resigning as chairman after consulting his family, political associates and community stakeholders.
Chairman Quits APC
In the first letter, dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area, Kalanjeni formally announced his resignation from the ruling party.
He wrote:
“I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.”
He further explained that his decision was personal.
“This decision is borne out of purely personal reasons. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be part of the party.”
Administrative Challenges Prompt Resignation
In a separate letter dated July 7, 2026, Kalanjeni informed the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of his resignation as the elected Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
The letter, titled “Letter of Resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area,” stated that his resignation took immediate effect.
He wrote:
“Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, effective immediately from today.”
Consultations Influenced Decision
Kalanjeni said he reached the decision after extensive consultations with those closest to him.
According to him:
“This difficult decision has been reached after extensive consultations with my family, key political associates and community stakeholders.”
He also explained that recent administrative challenges prevented him from delivering the level of service expected by the people.
“Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me.”
Chairman Appreciates Residents and Council Staff
Despite stepping down, Kalanjeni thanked the people of Tangaza for the opportunity to serve.
He expressed gratitude to the electorate, the legislative arm of the council and council staff for their support during his tenure.
“I am incredibly grateful to the electorate, the council’s legislative arm and the entire staff for the privilege and opportunity to serve our people. I wish the incoming leadership and administration continued success.”
Government Yet to React
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the APC in the state had issued an official statement on Kalanjeni’s resignation from the party and his position as chairman.
