Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has donated five operational vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Asaba to improve correctional operations, strengthen security, and enhance officers’ mobility. The vehicles were presented on Wednesday at the Government House. The donation supports the governor’s commitment to improving security across the state through better logistics.
Donation Supports Security and Justice
Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme said the vehicles demonstrate the administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies and strengthening the justice system.
He explained that improved mobility would enable correctional officers to respond faster to operational duties.
According to him, the vehicles will also strengthen supervision and coordination across the state’s correctional facilities.
MORE Agenda Drives Security Investment
Governor Oborevwori said the donation aligns with the Enhanced Peace and Security pillar of his MORE Agenda.
He noted that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal agency, it plays a critical role in maintaining peace and security in Delta State.
The governor stressed that effective correctional operations require adequate logistics and reliable transportation.
“These operational vehicles will enhance the day-to-day activities of officers, improve response capacity, strengthen supervision and coordination, and support the effective discharge of their responsibilities,” he said.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with federal security agencies to protect lives and property across the state.
The governor also urged officers to maintain the vehicles properly and use them strictly for official duties.

Responding, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwackuche, represented by the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, thanked the Delta State Government for the donation.
He assured the governor that the command would deploy the vehicles effectively to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
