US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American missionary Kevin Rideout will return to the United States after his release from captivity in Niger on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Rideout, a Christian missionary and pilot with SIM International, spent more than nine months in captivity after armed men abducted him outside his home in Niamey in October 2025. He reunited with his wife, Krista, following his release and is now preparing to fly home.
Trump Confirms Kevin Rideout’s Release
Trump announced Rideout’s release through a post on his Truth Social platform.
He said Rideout was preparing to return to the United States after reuniting with his wife.
“I am happy to reveal that former hostage Kevin Rideout is getting ready to fly home to the United States after having been reunited with his beautiful wife, Krista,” Trump wrote.
The US president also described Rideout’s release as a major milestone.
According to Trump, Rideout became the 110th captive American liberated since he began his second presidential term.
“I look forward to seeing Kevin and Krista at the White House soon!” Trump added.
Rideout Abducted in Niger
Rideout worked as a Christian missionary and pilot with SIM International in Niger.
Armed men reportedly abducted him outside his home in Niamey in October 2025.
The attackers allegedly took him to the Tillaberi region in western Niger.
The area has faced persistent militant activity and security challenges.
However, authorities have not disclosed the identities of Rideout’s captors.
They have also not revealed how officials secured his release.
Missionary in Good Health
SIM International confirmed that Rideout was in good health after his release.
The organisation also said US officials were caring for him.
Rideout had spent about 19 years working in Niger before his abduction.
His long service in the country included his work as a pilot for SIM International.
The Christian organisation operates in more than 70 countries around the world.
Kevin Rideout Set to Return to America
Following his reunion with Krista, Rideout is now preparing to leave Niger.
His return will end more than nine months of captivity.
Meanwhile, Trump said he expects to meet Rideout and his wife at the White House.
The circumstances surrounding the missionary’s release remain unclear.
Nevertheless, his safe return has brought relief to his family, colleagues and supporters.
