The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid, allowing Muslims across Nigeria to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and reflect on his teachings of compassion, humility and service.
FG Declares August 25 Public Holiday
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government.
He also congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and the diaspora on the annual celebration.
According to the minister, Eid ul Mawlid offers Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on important values.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He urged all Nigerians to embrace these values, regardless of religious affiliation.
Minister Calls for Peace and Unity
Tunji-Ojo said Nigeria needs compassion, humility and service more than ever.
He also called on citizens to use the celebration to promote peace and national unity.
The minister encouraged Nigerians to pray for lasting peace across the country.
He stressed that every citizen has a role in strengthening national cohesion.
FG Urges Nigerians to Celebrate Responsibly
Meanwhile, the minister urged Muslims to celebrate the occasion with restraint and mutual respect.
He also wished the Muslim community a peaceful and joyful Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He said the administration would continue working to maintain peace across the country.
Eid ul Mawlid 2026 Holiday
The Eid ul Mawlid 2026 public holiday will give workers and families time to observe the religious occasion.
The Federal Government also urged citizens to use the period to promote peaceful coexistence.
Consequently, the government called for greater understanding among Nigerians during the celebration.
