The Hausa Native Advancement and Development Initiative (HANADI) has criticised the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) over its response to the DSS investigation involving Senator Shehu Buba Umar. HANADI issued the response in Nigeria, following the SCSN’s defence of the senator, amid allegations linking him to criminal activities. The group said security agencies must investigate such allegations through constitutional and lawful procedures, without religious or ethnic interference.
HANADI Demands Respect for Constitutional Duties
HANADI said the Department of State Services (DSS) has a constitutional responsibility to address threats to national security.
The group argued that religious organisations should not interfere with security investigations.
According to HANADI, Nigeria’s Constitution protects citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity.
It therefore urged all organisations to respect the country’s legal institutions.
The group also warned against using religion to shield anyone facing serious allegations.
Group Questions SCSN’s Defence of Senator Shehu Buba
HANADI expressed concern over what it described as the SCSN’s defence of Senator Shehu Buba.
The organisation said allegations involving national security require proper investigation.
It argued that religious affiliation should not determine how authorities handle such cases.
HANADI also stressed that investigators must follow due process throughout the process.
The group said anyone linked to wrongdoing should answer questions before the appropriate authorities.
HANADI Raises Concerns Over Ethnic Considerations
The organisation further questioned whether ethnic considerations influenced the SCSN’s position.
HANADI alleged that the Council’s stance could create public concerns about ethnic bias.
However, it maintained that the law must apply equally to every Nigerian.
The group said no individual should receive protection because of ethnic or religious identity.
It also condemned violence, banditry and militia activities regardless of the perpetrators’ backgrounds.
National Security Must Remain the Priority
HANADI said Nigeria faces serious security challenges, particularly across the northern region.
These challenges include insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and militia-related violence.
The organisation therefore called for professional and impartial security investigations.
It said the DSS and other security agencies need public support to address these threats.
According to HANADI, interference could weaken public confidence in security institutions.
The group also warned that ethnic or religious politics could deepen existing divisions.
Call for Due Process in Senator Shehu Buba Case
HANADI urged the SCSN to allow security agencies to perform their lawful duties.
The group said investigators should establish the facts surrounding the allegations against Senator Shehu Buba.
It stressed that any person accused of wrongdoing remains entitled to due process.
At the same time, HANADI said allegations should not receive protection because of religion or ethnicity.
The organisation maintained that evidence should determine the outcome of any investigation.
HANADI Appeals for National Unity
HANADI said Nigeria needs justice, peace and equal protection under the law.
The organisation urged religious and community leaders to support lawful investigations.
It also called for restraint in public discussions surrounding the allegations.
According to HANADI, national security matters require responsible and evidence-based approaches.
The group ultimately appealed to the SCSN to respect constitutional boundaries.
It said authorities should investigate the Senator Shehu Buba allegations without political, ethnic or religious interference.
