President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated winners of recent by-elections in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, held over the weekend across five constituencies. The elections produced four All Progressives Congress (APC) winners and one Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate.
APC Wins Four Seats
The APC candidates secured four of the five seats contested during the by-elections.
The successful APC candidates include Kallamu MaiJama’a, who won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State.
Husseini Datti also won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat in Kano State.
Similarly, Okolosi Ator secured the Udu State Constituency seat in Delta State.
Yakubu Ali emerged victorious in the Disina State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.
Meanwhile, Adamu Yakubu of the APM won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.
Tinubu Welcomes Grassroots Support
President Tinubu said the APC victories reflect continued support for the party among Nigerians at the grassroots.
According to him, the results also show confidence in his administration’s economic reform programme.
“I am encouraged by the support Nigerians at the grassroots continue to show for our party,” Tinubu said.
He added that Nigerians should remain committed to the reforms introduced by his administration.
The President described the reforms as difficult but necessary measures for the country’s economic development.
He also urged Nigerians not to allow political opportunism to distract them.
According to Tinubu, the benefits of the reforms will become clearer during the next phase of his administration’s programme.
President Charges Winners on Representation
Tinubu urged the newly elected lawmakers to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents.
He called on the winners to provide diligent and effective representation.
The President also urged unsuccessful candidates to accept the election results in good faith.
He encouraged them to remain committed to Nigeria’s democratic process despite the outcomes.
Tinubu Commends Voters and Security Agencies
The President commended voters for maintaining peace during the by-elections.
He also praised security agencies for helping to preserve law and order throughout the polls.
Furthermore, Tinubu applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the elections.
He linked the exercise to the electoral process that followed the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
President Urges INEC to Improve Future Elections
Tinubu urged INEC to build on the progress recorded during the by-elections.
He also asked the commission to address identified shortcomings before future elections.
In particular, he called for further improvements ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for January and February.
