Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, met on Sunday in Port Harcourt to strengthen their peace agreement, resolve political differences and harmonise interests ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Wike Leads Rainbow Coalition Delegation to Fubara’s Residence
Wike arrived at the governor’s private residence at about 4:30 p.m. with a large delegation of Rainbow Coalition leaders and supporters.
The delegation reportedly included the coalition’s governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, and Reconciliation Committee Chairman, Senator Magnus Abe.
Candidates seeking various elective positions under the coalition also reportedly attended the meeting.
Furthermore, two long buses and several private vehicles conveyed visitors to the governor’s expansive compound.
Second Meeting Focuses on Reconciliation
Sunday’s meeting marked the second time Wike had led members of his camp to Fubara’s residence.
The first meeting took place on October 6, highlighting renewed efforts to improve relations between both political camps.
Although the discussions took place behind closed doors, sources described the engagement as a strategic step towards reconciliation.
The stakeholders reportedly discussed outstanding disagreements, political cooperation and ways to establish lasting peace in Rivers State.
“The engagement provided another opportunity for stakeholders from the two camps to come together, address their differences and work towards lasting peace and unity in Rivers State,” a source said.
Another source disclosed that Wike and Fubara were working to unite their supporters ahead of the elections.
According to the source, both camps want the coalition to approach the 2027 polls with a common political agenda.
Wike Intensifies Political Consultations Across Rivers
Meanwhile, Wike has continued touring local government areas across Rivers State in recent weeks.
During the visits, the minister has held strategic meetings with political stakeholders to mobilise support for the coalition’s candidates.
These engagements form part of wider negotiations to harmonise interests and finalise arrangements for the coalition’s 2027 campaign council.
Consequently, the renewed discussions between Wike and Fubara could influence political alignments within their respective camps.
APC Campaign Appointment Adds Political Significance
The latest meeting also followed Wike’s appointment by the APC Presidential Campaign Council as coordinator for Abuja and Rivers State.
The appointment has further highlighted the political importance of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the participants have not publicly disclosed the specific agreements reached during Sunday’s meeting.
Nevertheless, the continued engagements suggest that both camps are exploring ways to resolve their differences and coordinate their political activities.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the outcome of these discussions could shape the Rainbow Coalition’s strategy and political unity in Rivers State.
