The Anambra State Police Command has introduced a new monitoring system to supervise checkpoints and patrol teams across the state. CP Nnanna Oji Ama approved the move after security stakeholders raised concerns during recent meetings. The initiative seeks to improve policing, accountability and professionalism while protecting residents from extortion and harassment.
Police Strengthen Monitoring of Checkpoints
The command will use its operational control rooms to monitor police activities more closely.
The system will cover checkpoints, patrol formations and other strategic operational locations. Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers will also provide regular oversight.
Similarly, Tactical Team Commanders must account for personnel under their supervision.
The command said the strategy followed feedback from the CP’s recent interactive sessions. The meetings covered Anambra’s three senatorial districts.
According to the police, the feedback highlighted the need for stronger accountability and public-focused policing.
New System Targets Police Misconduct
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga announced the initiative in a statement on Sunday.
He said the system would help identify misconduct and address complaints quickly.
The command will monitor reports involving extortion, harassment and other unprofessional conduct. It will also escalate credible complaints for appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the police leadership warned officers against abusing their positions.
CP Nnanna Oji Ama said police officers must protect residents rather than exploit them.
He stressed the command’s duty to safeguard lives and property across Anambra.
Police Officers Face Disciplinary Action
The commissioner directed all Area Commanders and DPOs to enforce the new directive.
He also instructed Tactical Team Commanders to ensure strict compliance among their personnel.
Furthermore, officers found guilty of extortion or misconduct will face disciplinary action.
The command said such action would follow existing laws and police regulations.
Therefore, officers must maintain professionalism during patrols, checkpoint duties and other operations.

The Anambra Police Command also urged residents to support the monitoring initiative.
