By Elizabeth Ugbo

A group of armed kidnappers abducted a businessman, identified as Ejike “Junior,” on Saturday night at Sankera Junction in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The attackers struck around 9:40 p.m., targeted the victim at his shop, arrived on motorcycles, and forced bystanders to lie face down before fleeing the scene.

How the Attack Unfolded

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the busy junction while people gathered around drinking. The attackers, about five in number, acted quickly and took control of the area.

“They told everyone not to shout and to lie on the ground,” a source revealed. “After that, they took the man away on a motorcycle.”

Meanwhile, the suspects escaped within minutes, leaving no room for resistance.

Security Response and Eyewitness Account

Shortly after the incident, an eyewitness alerted nearby soldiers. However, the kidnappers had already fled before security operatives could respond.

A local source expressed concern about the delayed reaction. He noted that a police checkpoint sits close to the crime scene, yet no immediate intervention occurred.

Rising Concerns Over Security

Residents now question the effectiveness of security presence in the area. Many fear that the incident highlights ongoing security gaps in Ukum and surrounding communities.

In addition, locals worry about increasing cases of kidnapping targeting business owners and traders.

Police Silence Raises Questions

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not released any official statement regarding the abduction. This silence has further heightened tension among residents.
