Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Abandoning Retired Police Officers, Demands Salary Review

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu of neglecting retired police officers in Nigeria, alleging that many face hunger, illness and humiliation. Atiku also claimed that some serving officers dip into their pension savings to feed their families. He urged the Federal Government to address the Police Exit Bill and review police salaries following the recent pay increase for members of the Armed Forces.

Atiku Raises Concerns Over Retired Police Officers

Atiku criticised the Federal Government over the alleged hardship facing retired police officers. He said many former officers struggle to meet their basic needs after years of service.

According to him, hunger, illness and humiliation have become major challenges for some retired personnel.

Furthermore, Atiku expressed concern about the financial difficulties facing serving police officers. He alleged that some officers withdraw from their pension savings to provide food for their families.

The former vice president argued that the situation demands urgent government intervention to improve police welfare.

Atiku Demands Action on Police Exit Bill

Atiku called on President Tinubu to respond immediately to the Police Exit Bill. He urged the government to address the concerns surrounding police retirement arrangements.

The bill has become a key issue in discussions about police welfare and retirement benefits. However, Atiku wants the government to demonstrate greater commitment to protecting officers after retirement.

He maintained that retired personnel deserve adequate financial support and dignified living conditions after years of service to the country.

Former Vice President Seeks Police Salary Review

Atiku also demanded an urgent salary review for serving police officers. His call followed the pay increase approved for members of the Armed Forces.

He argued that the government should also consider the welfare of police personnel who face demanding security responsibilities.

Moreover, improved salaries could help officers manage rising living costs and support their families.

Atiku’s demands have renewed attention on police welfare, pension security and the need for better conditions of service.

Police Welfare Remains a Key Issue

The concerns raised by Atiku highlight broader questions about the welfare of serving and retired police officers in Nigeria.

Addressing pension challenges, reviewing salaries and considering the Police Exit Bill could shape future discussions about police welfare.

The Federal Government faces calls to ensure that personnel who protect the country receive adequate support during service and retirement.
