The Federal Government will empower 200 youths in Oyo State with practical skills from September 28 to October 9, 2026. The initiative, organised through the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), aims to boost youth entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Oyo Youths to Receive Practical Skills Training
The training comes under the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE).
Oyo State will host the first phase of the initiative. However, the Federal Government plans to replicate the programme across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The expansion will increase access to skills training, business tools and livelihood opportunities for young Nigerians.
Three Skills Training Tracks
The beneficiaries will receive training across three practical and marketable areas.
They include:
- Graphics Design and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Makeup
- Fashion Designing
The programme will also provide participants with tools for starting or expanding their businesses.
Graphics and AI trainees will receive laptops after completing the programme. Makeup trainees will receive fully equipped makeup kits.
Meanwhile, fashion designing trainees will receive sewing machines and starter kits.
These materials will help participants move from training into practical entrepreneurship.
Programme to End With Grand Finale
The training will end with a graduation and grand finale on October 9, 2026.
Additionally, the Federal Government will distribute 500 tablets to young Nigerians during the event.
The tablet distribution forms part of the government’s broader digital empowerment efforts.
Federal Government Targets Youth Economic Empowerment
The initiative highlights the government’s focus on practical skills development among young Nigerians.
Through the NPRGS, the government is promoting skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
The programme also seeks to improve youth participation in economic activities.
Furthermore, providing training tools can help beneficiaries apply their skills after graduation.
The Federal Government says such interventions can support sustainable livelihoods and improve economic opportunities for Nigerian youths.
