FG Introduces N50,000 Monthly Cash Relief For Vulnerable Nigerians

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The Federal Government has launched a N50,000 monthly cash relief programmed for eligible vulnerable households across Nigeria to ease rising living costs. The National Emergency Relief and Stabilization Intervention (NERSI) will provide immediate financial support to millions of Nigerians. The initiative follows growing concerns over global food inflation and its impact on household welfare.

FG Launches NERSI Cash Relief Programme

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the intervention in an official statement.

According to Doro, NERSI represents a presidential initiative aimed at supporting financially vulnerable Nigerians.

Furthermore, the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

It also seeks to cushion the effects of rising food prices and increasing economic pressures on households.

How Beneficiaries Will Receive N50,000

The ministry explained that beneficiaries will receive text messages from designated payment providers.

These messages will request their consent before the government processes payments.

Consequently, approved beneficiaries will receive the N50,000 directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

The government says this process will ensure transparent and secure payments.

FG Warns Nigerians Against Cash Relief Scams

Meanwhile, Doro has warned Nigerians against fraudsters seeking to exploit the intervention.

He advised beneficiaries to protect their personal identification numbers (PINs) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs).

The minister also clarified that beneficiaries do not need to submit applications.

Additionally, nobody should demand payment for registration or access to the programme.

He warned Nigerians against dealing with agents who request fees or sensitive banking information.

FG Promises Transparent Implementation

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to implementing NERSI with dignity, transparency and accountability.

The government also urged Nigerians to rely on official communication channels for accurate programme information.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to protect vulnerable households from rising living costs.
