The Federal Government has directed civil servants in Abuja to work from home on Friday, March 27, 2026, due to the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention at Eagle Square. The directive affects workers in the Federal Secretariat Phases I, II, and III, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Authorities announced the decision to ease movement, manage security, and ensure order during the major political event.
Road Closures Around Federal Secretariat
The government confirmed that all access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex will be closed. The closure will take effect from Friday, March 27, to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Officials explained that the restriction became necessary because Eagle Square will host the APC national convention. As a result, heavy traffic and large crowds are expected across the area.
Civil Servants Directed to Work Remotely
Authorities instructed affected workers to stay off-site during the period. Instead, they will carry out their duties from home.
The circular clearly stated that employees in Phases I, II, and III must comply. It also included staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Strict Compliance Required from MDAs
The government urged Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies to enforce the directive. They must inform all staff and ensure full compliance.
According to the circular, Abdul Garba, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, signed the directive on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
APC Convention Drives Government Action
The APC national convention will hold on Friday at Eagle Square in Abuja. The event will attract party leaders, delegates, and supporters nationwide.
Party officials will discuss internal matters and set strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections. Therefore, the government introduced these measures to maintain order and reduce disruptions.
