Foundation Cricket Club Marks 40 Years with Awards, Book Launch in Lagos

Foundation Cricket Club celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sunday at Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval, where players, officials, and dignitaries gathered to honour contributors, launch a coffee table book, and highlight the club’s impact on cricket development in Nigeria.


Celebration Highlights and Awards

The club presented awards to key contributors, including the Nigeria Cricket Federation and the CCC League.

Other honourees included The Cricket Lab, Chief Simeon Oyewole Ogundipe, Jacob Ajom, and Coach Ewa Henshaw.

These recognitions reflected decades of commitment to cricket growth.


CCC League Formation Recalled

Bob Osaghae and Akin Denton recounted how the club helped establish the CCC League in 1987.

They explained that the league has strengthened cricket development and expanded opportunities for players.

Their remarks showed the club’s lasting influence on the sport.


Dignitaries in Attendance

Prominent personalities attended the event, including Wahid Oshodi and Justice Babajide Candide-Johnson.

Others present were Endurance Ofem, Femi Agbaje, David Harper, Kevin Allanso, Dr Mrs Pat Oyelola, and Owolabi Oduguwa.

Their presence added prestige to the celebration.


FCC Coffee Table Book Launch

Adebola Kukoyi launched the FCC Coffee Table Book during the event.

The publication documents the club’s achievements and contributions over four decades.

It also preserves key moments in Nigeria’s cricket history.


Founding Story and Legacy

Kwesi Sagoe shared how four founders established the club in the 1985/1986 season.

The founders—Ako Amadi, Moye Adenuga, Olayinka Fisher, and Sagoe—aimed to support emerging cricketers.

Since then, the club has produced national players and administrators.

It has also supported cricket development in schools across Nigeria.


Chairman Emeritus Reacts

Olayinka Fisher expressed satisfaction with the club’s progress.

He noted improvements since the 30th anniversary.

He also praised members for sustaining the club’s vision.
