Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers killed a Man O’War officer, Dasola Sanusi, on Saturday evening along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway, linking Oyo and Ogun states, after ambushing commuters and opening fire on vehicles around 6:30 pm.
How the Attack Happened
According to a source, the officers were returning from an outing in Ibadan when the incident occurred. Shortly after passing the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria area, armed men launched a sudden हमला.
The attackers fired indiscriminately at multiple vehicles on the road. As a result, panic spread among commuters.
However, the officers reacted quickly. They navigated out of the attack zone despite sustaining gunshot wounds.
Victims and Casualties
The injured officers rushed to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for treatment. Sadly, doctors confirmed Dasola Sanusi dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, another officer, identified as Emmanuel, is receiving treatment for gunshot injuries. In addition, two female officers are hospitalised due to trauma.
The source described Sanusi’s death as a devastating loss. Authorities have since buried her remains in Ago-Iwoye after informing her family.
Police and Man O’War Response
The National Public Relations Officer of Man O’War, Ibrahim Bello, confirmed the incident. He stated that the organisation has started an investigation.
Similarly, the Oyo State Police Command responded swiftly. The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers mobilised immediately after receiving distress calls.
He explained that the attack involved an attempted kidnapping targeting commercial vehicles.
Police Prevent Kidnapping
Security operatives arrived quickly at the scene. Consequently, they prevented the attackers from abducting passengers.
They also rescued injured victims and ensured they received medical attention. One of the affected vehicles later moved to Awa–Ijebu, where police assisted passengers.
However, the police could not confirm the total number of casualties in Ogun State. Investigations remain ongoing.
Rising Security Concerns on Highway
This incident highlights growing insecurity along major highways in southwestern Nigeria. Many commuters now fear travelling on inter-state roads.
Authorities continue efforts to track down the attackers and improve safety along the route.
