Iran launched fresh drone and missile attacks on Sunday, targeting US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for recent American bombardments on Iranian territory. The attacks followed the deaths of two US service members during Iranian strikes, escalating tensions across the Gulf region despite an existing ceasefire and memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
Iran Targets US Military Bases in Kuwait
Iran’s military announced that it struck two US military installations in Kuwait using drones.
According to Iranian state media, the operation targeted the US military’s ammunition depot at Camp Udairi. It also struck the Patriot radar system and air surveillance radar at Ali Al Salem Air Base.
Tehran described the attacks as a direct response to recent US military operations inside Iranian territory.
Kuwait Confirms Air Defence Response
Kuwait confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted hostile missiles and drones.
The Kuwaiti military said its forces confronted the attacks following what it described as Iranian aggression.
Air raid sirens echoed across Kuwait City as security forces remained on high alert.
Earlier, Kuwait reported that Iranian strikes had damaged a power and water facility as well as an oil installation.
Bahrain Intercepts Iranian Aerial Attacks
Meanwhile, Bahrain also activated its air defence systems against incoming threats.
The Bahraini military announced that it intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks.
Residents in the capital, Manama, heard warning sirens followed by explosions in the northern part of the island kingdom.
Bahrain hosts the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet, making it a strategic military location in the Gulf.
US Confirms Military Casualties
The latest escalation came after the United States announced strikes against Iran to punish Tehran following the deaths of American troops.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that two service members died on Friday while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.
CENTCOM also revealed that another US service member remains missing in action.
The deaths marked the first confirmed US military fatalities since hostilities resumed between both countries.
Regional Tensions Continue to Rise
Despite a ceasefire and memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, military confrontations have intensified across the Gulf.
Kuwait and Bahrain, both hosting major US military facilities, have become key targets in the expanding conflict.
Security analysts warn that continued retaliation could further destabilise the Middle East and threaten regional energy infrastructure.
