The Katsina State Government has provided free eye surgeries for over 1,000 less-privileged patients in Katsina State.
The medical outreach was conducted from February 7 to 11, 2026.
The surgeries took place at the Old Market Eye Hospital in Katsina.
Importantly, the initiative aimed to restore sight and improve access to quality healthcare.
The programme was supported by the Darrul Imara Charity Foundation and Endowment, Kano.
Second Phase of Medical Outreach
According to the Ministry of Health, the exercise marked the second phase of the intervention.
The Public Relations Officer, Hauwa Isha, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
She noted that the outreach successfully targeted vulnerable and low-income residents.
Furthermore, she confirmed that all medical procedures were completed without complications.
Consequently, beneficiaries received post-surgery care and medical guidance.
Social Media Complaint Sparks Investigation
However, the Commissioner for Health, Hamza Suleiman-Funtua, reportedly received a complaint on social media.
The complaint alleged inappropriate conduct by some hospital staff during the exercise.
As a result, the ministry immediately initiated an investigation.
Ministry Sets Up Investigative Committee
Subsequently, an investigative committee was established to examine the allegations.
The committee is led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Lawal Aliyu-Rabe.
Accordingly, the panel will conduct a thorough and unbiased review of the claims.
Government Assures Transparency and Quality Healthcare
Meanwhile, the ministry assured the public of fairness and transparency.
It emphasized that appropriate action would follow the committeeโs findings.
Moreover, officials pledged to protect the integrity of the health ministry.
Ultimately, the government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality healthcare services across Katsina State.
