KATSINA, Nigeria — The Katsina State Government has intensified security operations to secure the release of former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (Rtd), his wife, and other abductees. The government announced the renewed efforts on Sunday in Katsina. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Zango, said Governor Dikko Radda directed security agencies to prioritise the rescue mission after investigations revealed the victims were deliberately targeted by organised criminal groups.
Katsina Government Steps Up Rescue Operations
The Katsina State Government says it remains committed to securing the freedom of Major General Abubakar, his wife, and other victims in captivity.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Commissioner for Information and Culture Bala Zango disclosed that Governor Dikko Radda had ordered security agencies to intensify rescue operations.
According to the government, all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe return of the abductees.
Officials expressed confidence that ongoing security efforts would soon achieve a breakthrough.
Investigation Reveals Planned Abduction
Preliminary findings indicate that the kidnapping was a carefully coordinated operation.
Security agencies believe organised criminal elements planned and executed the attack.
Evidence gathered during investigations suggests the retired general and his wife were monitored from Kaduna before their abduction.
Authorities said the victims were allegedly trailed from their point of departure before the attackers struck.
The government noted that the targeted nature of the crime has provided valuable intelligence for security operations.
Security Agencies Adopt New Response Strategy
Officials described the kidnapping as a sophisticated operation that reflects changing tactics among criminal groups in the region.
As a result, security agencies have adjusted their response strategy.
“The targeted nature of this crime has provided critical intelligence that is shaping our response strategy,” the statement said.
Authorities are combining advanced technology with ground intelligence to track the suspects.
They also continue surveillance and operational activities across affected areas.
“We are dealing with a targeted operation, which changes the dynamics of our response,” government officials stated.
“The state is working around the clock, utilising both technology and ground intelligence to close in on the abductors.”
Government Appeals for Public Support
Meanwhile, the government has urged residents to assist security agencies with useful information.
It appealed to the public to report suspicious movements or activities linked to the kidnapping.
Officials stressed that credible intelligence could help identify and dismantle the criminal network responsible.
The government also urged the family of the victims and residents to remain calm.
It expressed optimism that security efforts would soon lead to the victims’ safe rescue.
Attack Described as Assault on National Service
The Katsina State Government condemned the abduction and described it as an attack on citizens who have dedicated their lives to national service.
Officials emphasised that the incident goes beyond the retired military officer and his family.
The government reaffirmed its determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
It also pledged to dismantle criminal groups responsible for similar attacks across the state.
Furthermore, Katsina authorities said collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Police, and intelligence agencies remains strong as rescue operations continue.
