Kebbi State, Nigeria – On Wednesday, suspected Lakurawa terrorists killed 34 people in coordinated attacks across villages in Arewa Local Government Area. The gunmen struck Bui and nearby settlements, invading homes and firing indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee. Security forces are responding to protect civilians and track the militants.
Details of the Attack
Security sources confirmed that 16 people died in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, and two each in five other villages. Survivors described the attacks as highly organized and unprovoked. The gunmen primarily targeted fasting Muslims, leaving communities traumatized.
Government Response
Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy, condemned the attacks as reckless and abominable. He reassured that the state government would use all available resources to secure lives and property.
“The latest attack by these misguided criminals is just the last kick of a dying horse,” Zuru said. “The Kebbi State Government, alongside the Nigerian military, is closing in on the terrorists, who are mainly spillovers from Niger Republic and Sokoto.”
Security Measures
Security forces have been deployed to the affected areas to assist survivors, block escape routes, and prevent further attacks. Tracking operations are ongoing, with coordination between local authorities and the military.
Support for Victims
The state government expressed grief over the victims and promised immediate assistance for survivors. Zuru emphasized that the government mourns with the families of those killed and remains committed to ending security challenges in the region.
