Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been ruled out of Nigeria’s international friendly against Jordan on Tuesday in Antalya, Turkey, after he suffered a thigh knock during training on Monday, according to team officials. The injury occurred during preparations, and the technical crew withdrew him to avoid further complications, while head coach Eric Chelle must now rely on alternative goalkeepers to protect the net in a match aimed at squad assessment and tactical fine-tuning.
Okoye Injury Forces Goalkeeping Reassessment
Okoye recently returned to the national team and showed strong form. However, the thigh injury disrupted his comeback momentum. Consequently, Nigeria must adjust quickly ahead of kickoff.
Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the setback. He stated that the goalkeeper picked up the knock during final preparations. Therefore, medical staff advised immediate withdrawal from the match.
Adeleye and Uzoho in Line to Start
With Okoye out, Eric Chelle now considers Adebayo Adeleye and Francis Uzoho. Both goalkeepers remain in contention for the starting role.
Meanwhile, Stanley Nwabali is not part of the current squad. This limits Nigeria’s depth in goal. As a result, competition for the starting spot becomes more intense.
More Injury Concerns Hit Super Eagles Squad
Nigeria also faces additional squad setbacks. Semi Ajayi is sidelined due to a knock. In addition, Bruno Onyemaechi left camp following the birth of his child.
These absences reduce defensive stability. However, the team continues preparations with available players.

Nigeria will face Jordan at 6:30 pm Nigerian time in Antalya. The match offers another chance for tactical evaluation.
Moreover, the coaching team plans to test squad depth. Despite missing key players, Nigeria aims to maintain competitive balance and structure.

Nigeria will focus on building cohesion. Meanwhile, emerging players may gain valuable minutes on the pitch.
