Nigeria Defeat Iran 2–1 in International Friendly in Antalya

On Friday in Antalya, Turkey, Nigeria national football team defeated Iran national football team 2–1 in a four-nation international friendly. Coach Eric Chelle led Nigeria, while Iran provided strong opposition at the Antalyaspor Stadium. Nigeria scored through Moses Simon and Akor Adams. Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi netted Iran’s only goal. The Super Eagles achieved victory despite late pressure from Iran.


Strong Start From the Super Eagles

Nigeria started brightly and controlled early possession. Consequently, they pressed Iran high and created early chances.

Moses Simon opened the scoring in the 6th minute. He cut in from the left flank and finished clinically past Alireza Beiranvand. The goal gave Nigeria early confidence.


Missed Chances Before Halftime

Nigeria continued to dominate after the opener. However, they failed to convert several clear chances.

The Super Eagles pushed forward with pace and width. Still, Iran defended deep and stayed compact. As a result, Nigeria led only 1–0 at halftime.


Akor Adams Doubles Nigeria’s Lead

Nigeria increased intensity after the restart. In the 61st minute, the pressure paid off.

Ademola Lookman assisted Akor Adams inside the box. Atletico Madrid forward Lookman delivered a precise pass. Adams finished quickly to double Nigeria’s advantage.

Victor Osimhen missed the match due to injury. Therefore, Adams led the attack effectively.


Iran Fight Back Through Taremi

Iran responded with attacking pressure. They pushed Nigeria’s defense deeper.

Mehdi Taremi scored after a goalmouth scramble. The striker reacted fastest inside the box. This goal reduced the deficit to 2–1.

However, Nigeria stayed organized and disciplined. They absorbed pressure and protected their lead.


Nigeria Hold On for Victory

Iran increased urgency in the final minutes. Still, Nigeria defended strongly and managed the game well.

Maduka Okoye started in goal due to Stanley Nwabali’s absence. Nigeria national football team maintained structure and closed out the match. Ultimately, the Super Eagles secured a deserved win.


What’s Next for Nigeria

Nigeria will face Jordan next in the four-nation tournament. The team aims to build momentum after this win. Coaches will also assess squad depth ahead of future fixtures.
