The Ondo State Police Command arrested a suspected kidnapper, Adegbenro Adeola, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Akure, Ondo State, after a high-speed chase along the Oba-Ile axis. Police operatives rescued the victim, Kayode Alaba, during the operation after receiving intelligence about a distress situation involving a moving vehicle. The officers also recovered the gang’s vehicle and launched further investigations into the kidnapping case.
Police Rescue Victim During Pursuit
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, operatives on routine patrol received information about suspicious activity in a red Toyota Camry.
Shortly after, the officers spotted the vehicle along the Oba-Ile axis in Akure. They heard a man shouting for help from inside the car and immediately pursued the suspects.
During the chase, the kidnappers allegedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle to escape arrest. However, the police team continued the pursuit.
Suspect Arrested, Others Escape
The operatives eventually arrested Adeola, while other gang members escaped from the scene.
Jimoh revealed that preliminary investigations showed the gang abducted the victim earlier from his residence along Irese Road, Akure.
Police officers also recovered the vehicle used during the operation.
Victim Receives Medical Attention
Authorities confirmed that the rescued victim is receiving medical attention.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect has provided useful information to investigators. The police have transferred the case to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation.
Security agencies are also working to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
