President Tinubu Begins Commissioning of Major FCT Projects in Abuja

By Elizabeth Ugbo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will begin commissioning key infrastructure projects in Abuja on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as part of activities marking his third anniversary in office. The projects, located across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Area Councils, aim to improve transportation, boost economic development, and enhance connectivity for residents. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced the schedule during a project inspection tour in Abuja on Monday.

Tinubu to Flag Off OSEX Stage Two Commissioning

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed that President Tinubu will start the commissioning exercise with the inauguration of the Stage Two Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Main Carriageways.

According to the minister, the road project has reached full completion and is ready for public use.

“Tomorrow, the President will start the commissioning of the OSEX road, which was the first place we visited this morning,” Wike said.

Strategic Road Projects Ready for Inauguration

Wike revealed that the commissioning programme will continue throughout the week.

On Wednesday, June 10, the President will inaugurate the Arterial Road N5 in Life Camp. The following day, he will commission the newly dualised Highway 105, which connects the Airport Road corridor to Kuje.

The minister noted that all three projects have achieved 100 percent completion.

“These projects are fully completed and ready for commissioning. We achieved the timelines, and I commend the contractors for fulfilling their commitments,” he stated.

Tinubu to Commission Projects in Area Councils

Beyond Abuja city centre, President Tinubu will also commission infrastructure projects in the FCT Area Councils.

Although Wike did not disclose the exact locations, he said the projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to rural development.

He explained that the government remains focused on improving the lives of residents in satellite communities.

Wike Commends Tinubu’s Support for FCT Development

The minister praised President Tinubu for providing the leadership and support that enabled the completion of several projects.

He stressed that effective leadership involves completing inherited projects alongside initiating new ones.

“The credit must go to Mr President for providing the directive and support that made these achievements possible,” Wike said.

FCT Bus Terminals Await Final PPP Process

Wike also addressed concerns about completed bus terminals that have not started operations.

He explained that the Federal Executive Council approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for managing the facilities.

According to him, the concessionaire is currently assembling buses and taxis before operations begin.

He urged residents to remain patient as the procurement and concession processes are completed.

“Government procedures involve several stages. The operator is putting the necessary transport fleet in place to ensure a smooth launch,” the minister added.

Infrastructure Drive Gains Momentum in Abuja

The commissioning exercise highlights the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in road infrastructure and transportation within the FCT.

The projects are expected to improve mobility, support economic growth, and strengthen connections between Abuja and surrounding communities.
