Rivers United Players Escape Serious Injury in Team Bus Accident on Way to Federation Cup Clash

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — Players and officials of Rivers United FC sustained minor injuries on Thursday after their team bus was involved in an accident along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road in Port Harcourt. The incident occurred while the club travelled to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United. The club confirmed that no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were recorded, while all affected individuals received immediate medical attention.

Rivers United Team Bus Involved in Road Accident

The accident happened shortly after the team departed from its camp in Port Harcourt en route to Awka for the crucial Federation Cup fixture.

Speaking on the incident, Rivers United Media Officer, Charles Mayuku, confirmed that several players and officials suffered minor injuries.

However, emergency responders and medical personnel quickly attended to those affected.

No Fatalities Recorded

Mayuku assured supporters that all injured individuals remain in stable condition.

“The club can confirm that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported,” he stated.

He added that medical teams are providing appropriate care to everyone involved.

Club Prioritises Players’ Welfare

Meanwhile, Rivers United said the health, safety, and well-being of its players and officials remain the club’s top priority.

The Nigeria Premier Football League side continues to monitor the condition of all affected team members.

Furthermore, club officials are working closely with medical personnel to ensure full recovery.

The club also thanked supporters, partners, and the wider football community for their concern and prayers following the accident.

In addition, the club disclosed that it will provide further information regarding its travel arrangements and the status of the Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United.
