Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, foiled an attempted terrorist advance towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The troops moved after receiving credible intelligence about an armed group heading towards the community. They deployed near Ghandi Bridge to stop the threat and protect residents.
Troops Engage Terrorists Near Ghandi Bridge
According to the Nigerian Army, the troops took strategic positions near Ghandi Bridge.
They soon made contact with the armed group. The soldiers then engaged the terrorists with superior firepower.
Consequently, the attack forced the terrorists to retreat in disarray.
Several insurgents reportedly sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter. Some of them attempted to escape by jumping into a nearby river.
Soldiers Recover AK-47 Rifle, Ammunition
At daybreak, the troops launched a clearance and search operation in the area.
During the operation, they recovered an AK-47 rifle and a loaded magazine. They also found additional rounds of ammunition and various personal effects.
The soldiers secured all recovered items for further action. Meanwhile, search and mop-up operations continued around the area.
Army Tracks Fleeing Terrorists
The Army said the ongoing operation targets the fleeing suspects.
It also aims to prevent further attacks against Ghandi residents and nearby communities.
Therefore, troops continue to maintain pressure on the fleeing terrorists. The operation forms part of broader security efforts across Sokoto State.
