Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan as New Head of Civil Service

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), effective August 27, 2026, as the administration seeks to deepen civil service reforms, improve efficiency and strengthen professionalism. Enitan, the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, will succeed Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, who will retire after reaching the statutory age of 60.

President Tinubu announced Enitan’s appointment as part of efforts to sustain reforms across the Federal Civil Service.

The President also praised Walson-Jack for her years of dedicated service to Nigeria.

Tinubu acknowledged the reforms, innovations and impact recorded during her tenure.

He further wished the outgoing Head of Service a fulfilling life after retirement.

Enitan Brings Extensive Civil Service Experience

Enitan currently serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.

He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months.

During that period, he worked in several key government institutions.

These include the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

He also served in the Office of the Vice President.

Consequently, Enitan brings extensive institutional knowledge to his new role.

He also understands the operations and demands of the Federal Civil Service.

Enitan’s Educational Background

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966, and hails from Osun State.

He attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan for his secondary education.

He later attended the College of Arts and Science in Ile-Ife.

Afterward, he proceeded to the University of Lagos.

He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking.

In 2015, Enitan earned a Master of Science degree.

He studied Public Policy Analysis at Nasarawa State University, Lafia.

Tinubu Sets Priorities for Incoming HCSF

President Tinubu tasked Enitan with consolidating ongoing civil service reforms.

He also urged him to deepen professionalism and improve efficiency across the service.

Furthermore, the President called for a more responsive and effective Civil Service.

Tinubu said the service must support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He urged Enitan to promote merit, accountability and innovation within government institutions.

The President also stressed the need for a service that responds to Nigerians’ needs.

Enitan to Lead Civil Service Reforms

The new Head of Service will take charge at a critical stage of federal reforms.

His experience across major ministries could support a smooth transition.

Moreover, his seniority gives him considerable institutional experience within the service.

The administration expects him to strengthen professionalism and improve public sector performance.

His tenure will therefore focus on building a more efficient and responsive Civil Service.
