Tinubu Removes NMDPRA Boss, Nominates Rabiu Umar as Replacement

President Bola Tinubu has removed Saidu Mohammed as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The decision was announced on Wednesday in Abuja by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu said he acted in the public interest to strengthen regulation in the petroleum sector. He also nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive, pending Senate confirmation. The move aims to improve energy security, sector reforms, and economic growth.

Tinubu Targets Stronger Petroleum Regulation

The presidency said the decision aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. It also supports the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the statement, Tinubu wants capable leadership in key regulatory institutions. He believes this will drive efficiency and accountability in the midstream and downstream sectors.

Rabiu Umar’s Experience and Credentials

Rabiu Abdullahi Umar brings over 25 years of experience. He has worked across energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors.

He has led major projects and delivered operational improvements in several organizations. Umar studied Accounting at Bayero University. He also attended Harvard Business School.

Officials say his expertise will strengthen regulatory effectiveness and industry performance.

Transition Plan for NMDPRA Leadership

Meanwhile, the most senior official at NMDPRA will oversee operations in an acting capacity. This arrangement will continue until the Senate confirms Umar’s appointment.

The presidency emphasized continuity during the transition. It assured stakeholders of stable regulatory oversight.

Tinubu Commends Outgoing Chief Executive

Tinubu thanked Saidu Mohammed for his service. He wished him success in his future endeavors.

The presidency described the leadership change as necessary for progress. It stressed that reforms remain a top priority.
