Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons during an ambush in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State on June 27. The operation followed credible intelligence that the terrorists planned to attack the Sabarumawa community. Troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 laid a tactical ambush along the suspects’ route and successfully foiled the planned attack, according to the military.
Intelligence Foils Planned Terrorist Attack
The Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, security forces received credible intelligence about the planned attack. Consequently, troops mobilised immediately and positioned themselves at a strategic location.
The soldiers established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of movement. As a result, they intercepted the armed group before it reached the target community.
Troops Overpower Terrorists in Fierce Gun Battle
As the terrorists approached the ambush position, troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower.
A fierce gun battle followed. However, the superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray.
Two suspected terrorists were neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding forest with injuries.
Security Forces Recover Arms and Ammunition
Following the operation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle from the scene.
The recovered items are expected to support ongoing investigations and intelligence efforts against terrorist groups operating in the region.
Military Reaffirms Commitment
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups across Nigeria’s North-West.
The military also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information. It noted that public support remains vital to ongoing counter-terrorism operations and efforts to improve security across the region.
