Vice President Kashim Shettima will begin a two-week leave on Thursday, August 6, 2026, after receiving approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The leave, his first since assuming office on May 29, 2023, will allow him to focus on study, reflection and intellectual renewal. He will use the period to strengthen his capacity for national service and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Shettima to Focus on Study and Policy Review
During the leave, the Vice President will dedicate time to reviewing the administration’s ongoing programmes and assessing emerging national and global policy issues.
In addition, the period will enable him to broaden his understanding of governance challenges and develop fresh ideas that support effective public service.
The leave also provides an opportunity to prepare for greater responsibilities as the Federal Government intensifies the implementation of its development agenda.
Active Role in National Development
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Shettima has remained actively involved in coordinating key government initiatives.
His responsibilities have covered several strategic sectors, including:
- Economic development
- Food security
- Humanitarian affairs
- Digital transformation
- Job creation
- Regional cooperation
Consequently, he has played a central role in driving policies aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
Leadership of the National Economic Council
As Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), the Vice President regularly leads meetings involving the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials.
The council discusses economic policies and initiatives that directly affect national development and citizens’ welfare.
Representing Nigeria on the Global Stage
Beyond domestic responsibilities, Shettima has represented President Tinubu at major regional and international events.
During these engagements, he has promoted Nigeria’s interests in:
- Economic integration
- Peace and security
- Climate action
- Investment
- Sustainable development
These efforts have strengthened Nigeria’s voice in global discussions on development and economic cooperation.
