Wike Commends Speed, Quality of Abuja Projects, Expands Development to Satellite Towns

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday inspected ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja. He praised the quality and speed of execution, confirmed that several projects would be inaugurated during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary, and stated that the administration was extending development to satellite communities through major road construction.

Wike Applauds Progress on Body of Benchers Annex

Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress at the Body of Benchers annex building. According to him, the project has reached 95 percent completion.

“Today is a very good day. The work at the Body of Benchers annex building is 95 percent completed. The furniture has been installed, and only minor finishing touches remain,” he said.

The minister also inspected the access road leading to the complex. China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation handled the project.

He commended the contractor for delivering quality work within the agreed timeline.

Road Projects Set for Tinubu’s Third Anniversary

Wike revealed that several completed projects would form part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office.

“The road has been completed, and workers are installing streetlights. That road will be inaugurated during Mr. President’s third anniversary,” he stated.

The minister further inspected the Tudun Wada road project linking Old Ushafa Road. He disclosed that contractors would complete asphalt laying and streetlight installation within days.

FCT Administration Targets Satellite Communities

Wike stressed that the Tinubu administration now prioritises infrastructure expansion in satellite towns and rural communities.

According to him, the ongoing road projects around Zuba will improve connectivity and boost economic activities.

“My greatest happiness is that we have also started going to Zuba. The surrounding communities will now open up. That is what development is all about,” he said.

He added that the President directed the FCT Administration to ensure that residents outside the city centre also benefit from development projects.

Contractors Receive Commendation

The minister praised contractors for maintaining quality standards while meeting project deadlines.

“I am impressed with the quality of the job and the timely completion. I commend the contractors for fulfilling their promise,” Wike added.

Wike Dismisses Claims Against Area Councils

Meanwhile, Wike dismissed allegations that Area Council chairmen underutilise allocations because of the FCT Administration’s intervention in infrastructure projects.

He argued that most councils face heavy salary obligations, especially teachers’ salaries.

“How much do they receive monthly, and how much goes into teachers’ salaries? People make claims without facts,” he stated.

Wike Speaks on PDP Primaries

The minister also commented on the ongoing primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said the party conducted the exercise smoothly and confirmed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process.

“All I know is that we have completed our screening, and the primaries are going on. INEC officials were present, and I am satisfied with the process,” Wike said.
