Police Arrest Three, Recover Firearms and Hard Drugs in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered firearms and hard drugs in Enugu State. The operations were carried out in January 2026 in Enugu South Local Government Area.

According to the command, the arrests followed credible intelligence gathered by operatives. Consequently, police intensified surveillance in identified criminal hotspots.

Anti-Cultism Squad Arrests Two in Awkunanaw

On January 19, officers of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested two suspects in the Awkunanaw axis. The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Mba, 31, and Nnam Onukwube, 35.

According to police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe, both suspects allegedly confessed to cult membership. They were reportedly linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

Furthermore, Mba was identified as the head and executioner of the group in Enugu South LGA as of December 2025.

Firearms and Ammunition Recovered

During the operation, police recovered a pump-action gun from the suspects. In addition, officers seized a locally fabricated Beretta-type pistol.

Police also recovered 31 live cartridges during the raid. Moreover, they confiscated a large wrap of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Additionally, officers seized one HP laptop and a motorcycle believed to be linked to criminal activities.

Eight Arrested in Agbani Raid

Meanwhile, on January 31, police raided criminal hideouts in the Agbani axis of Enugu State. As a result, eight suspects were detained for screening and investigation.

Following preliminary screening, most of the suspects were released. However, one suspect, Monday Ezeani, 32, was found with illegal substances.

Suspect Found with Cannabis and Methamphetamine

According to the police, Ezeani was in possession of dried substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Additionally, officers recovered 39 pellets of suspected crystal methamphetamine, locally known as โ€œMkpuru-mmiri.โ€

Subsequently, he was taken into custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, reassured residents of improved security measures. He emphasized the commandโ€™s commitment to protecting lives and property across Enugu State.

Furthermore, he warned criminals to desist from armed robbery, cultism and drug trafficking. Otherwise, they will face the full weight of the law.
