The Kano State Government has announced plans to construct toll gates on major entry roads into Kano metropolis to strengthen security and boost revenue. Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Adamu, disclosed the initiative on Monday in Kano while handing over seven project sites to contractors. The government said the project will enhance monitoring of vehicular movement and improve the state’s socio-economic framework. Officials confirmed that contractors will begin work immediately and complete the projects within the agreed timeline.

Government Strengthens Security Architecture

According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Adamu Abdullahi, the government remains committed to improving Kano’s security structure.

He explained that the toll gates will allow authorities to monitor vehicles entering the state more effectively. As a result, security agencies can respond swiftly to threats.

Furthermore, Adamu urged contractors to deliver quality work and meet deadlines. He stressed that timely completion remains a top priority.

Seven Strategic Locations Identified

The government selected seven major roads leading into Kano metropolis for the project. These include:

  • Daura Road
  • Katsina Road
  • Gwarzo Road
  • Zaria Road
  • Maiduguri Road
  • Hadejia Road
  • Sa’adatu Rimi Road

Officials believe these locations will significantly improve traffic monitoring and revenue collection.

Transparent Handover Process

During the ceremony, contractors signed handover notes alongside representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development and the project consultant.

The Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner of Public Procurement and Monitoring, Dr. Nura Ma’aji, witnessed the exercise across all seven sites.

Moreover, the government emphasized transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

Boosting Revenue and Development

Beyond security, the toll gates will generate funds for infrastructure development. Consequently, the state expects improved road maintenance and public services.

The government reaffirmed its determination to combine security enhancement with economic growth. It also assured residents that the project will support long-term development goals.
