The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspects for cattle rustling in Ado-Awaye, Iseyin LGA, on March 13, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m., following a distress call from a resident, leading to the recovery of stolen cows.
Swift Police Response Foils Cattle Theft
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Ibadan.
According to him, Muhammad Ibrahim from Igbojaye reported that armed hoodlums invaded a cattle camp. The attackers stole several cows belonging to a herder identified as Yahaya.
Immediately, the Divisional Police Officer in Ado-Awaye mobilised officers and local vigilantes. Consequently, the joint team moved swiftly to the scene.
Suspects Abandon Vehicle, Flee Into Bush
During the operation, the team intercepted the suspects while loading stolen cattle into a white Mazda bus. The vehicle carried registration number KMA 178 ZY.
However, on sighting the operatives, the suspects fled into the bush. They abandoned the vehicle with two cows already loaded.
Meanwhile, the team rescued two herders, Ibrahim Musa and Ibrahim Umaru. The suspects had tied them together before fleeing.
Manhunt Leads to Arrest of Four Suspects
Following the escape, security operatives launched a bush combing operation. As a result, they arrested Sekooni Wale, 30, and Jimoh Toheeb, 25.
Wale allegedly drove the bus used in the operation, while Toheeb served as the motor boy.
Further investigation led officers to Maya Town in Lanlate. There, they arrested the principal suspect, Moshood Abdullahi, 38.
Police also apprehended another accomplice, Macho Sindi, 29. Abdullahi reportedly came from Badagry and is known for cattle rustling.
Suspects Confess as Police Recover Livestock
Ayanlade stated that the suspects confessed during interrogation.
The coordinated response led to the full recovery of the rustled cattle.
Police Commend Teamwork, Urge Public Support
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, praised the operatives and local security partners. He highlighted their courage and quick response.
He also stressed that collaboration with communities remains vital for maintaining law and order.
Furthermore, the command urged residents to stay vigilant. It encouraged them to share timely and credible information with security agencies.
