Tinubu Meets Governors, Prioritises Security and Economic Relief

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday met with state governors in Lagos during the Eid al-Fitr celebration, where he addressed insecurity, rising living costs, and economic challenges, while outlining measures to protect vulnerable Nigerians and strengthen national development.


Tinubu Urges Governors to Cushion Economic Hardship

The President urged governors to introduce policies that ease rising energy and transportation costs. He stressed that citizens need immediate relief as inflation pressures increase.

He also asked governors to turn development plans into practical policies. According to him, governance must deliver visible improvements in people’s daily lives.


Strong Call for Federal-State Collaboration on Security

Tinubu emphasized stronger collaboration between federal and state governments. He noted that joint efforts remain critical in tackling insecurity nationwide.

He urged governors to support ongoing security operations. He added that criminal elements must not disrupt national progress.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration is strengthening the country’s security architecture. He revealed plans to deploy modern technology and improve intelligence systems.


Governors Back State Police Proposal

Speaking for the governors, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq called for unity in ending insecurity. He confirmed that discussions on state police are ongoing.

He explained that the Nigerian Governors’ Forum is working with the National Security Adviser and other stakeholders. They are developing a legislative framework.

According to him, the proposal will soon go to the National Assembly for consideration.


Tinubu Highlights International Security Partnerships

Tinubu disclosed that his recent foreign engagements focused on securing international support. He cited discussions with Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron.

He said both countries are supporting Nigeria with equipment and intelligence cooperation. He added that talks with other nations are ongoing.


Concern Over Global Economic Pressures

The President warned that global tensions, especially in the Middle East, could worsen inflation. He noted that such developments may weaken citizens’ purchasing power.

“We should care more for the vulnerable,” Tinubu said. He added that labour unions may demand more government support.


Shettima Commended, Governors in Attendance

Tinubu praised Vice President Kashim Shettima for visiting Borno State. He said the visit showed commitment to national unity and security.

The meeting included several governors such as Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Siminalayi Fubara, and Peter Mbah, among others.


Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to National Security

Tinubu described insecurity as Nigeria’s biggest challenge. He warned that it threatens development and prosperity.

He assured Nigerians that his administration will not allow insecurity to derail progress. He pledged renewed efforts to protect citizens and restore stability.
