Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has relieved six commissioners of their appointments during a minor cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday in Lafia. Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, disclosed the decision after the State Executive Council meeting, saying the move aims to inject fresh ideas, strengthen governance and improve service delivery during the administration’s remaining months.
Six Commissioners Affected by Cabinet Reshuffle
Speaking to journalists after the council meeting, Magaji said the affected commissioners headed the Ministries of:
- Works
- Women Affairs
- Information
- Lands
- Science and Technology
- Security and Sundry Matters
He explained that the commissioners stepped aside to allow the government to introduce fresh perspectives and improve the administration’s effectiveness.
Government Commends Former Commissioners
Magaji stressed that the decision was not based on poor performance. Instead, he said the State Executive Council acknowledged the dedication, efficiency and commitment displayed by the affected commissioners.
According to him, the former commissioners remain valuable members of the administration and may receive other government appointments in the future.
“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Governor Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” Magaji said.
New Commissioners to Be Announced Soon
The SSG disclosed that Governor Sule would announce the names of the new commissioners through the appropriate government channels.
He, however, did not provide a specific timeline for the appointments.
Nasarawa Targets More Revenue from Lithium Investments
Meanwhile, the Executive Council also reviewed strategies to increase the state’s internally generated revenue through investments in the lithium sector.
Magaji said the discussion followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
According to him, the government is developing measures to maximise the economic opportunities created by the expanding lithium processing industry.
He added that officials would release details of the council’s decisions at the appropriate time.
