Former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu after his removal from the Federal Executive Council (FEC). He spoke on Tuesday following a cabinet reshuffle in Nigeria. He described his service as a privilege and a national duty. He also highlighted his role in advancing the administration’s housing agenda.
Dangiwa Thanks Tinubu After Exit
Dangiwa expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust placed in him. He said serving in the administration gave him a rare opportunity to impact Nigeria’s housing sector.
“I sincerely thank Mr. President for the confidence reposed in me,” he stated. He added that he worked to improve access to affordable housing for Nigerians.
Key Achievements in Office
During his tenure, Dangiwa introduced several housing reforms. Notably, he launched the Renewed Hope Housing Programme. He also promoted public-private partnerships to boost housing delivery.
In addition, he pushed reforms in land administration and housing finance. These efforts aimed to position housing as a driver of economic growth and job creation.
He further credited cabinet members, development partners, and ministry staff for their support. According to him, their collaboration strengthened the foundation for sustainable housing delivery.
Mixed Reactions From Experts
However, reactions to his performance remain divided. Analysts acknowledged his strong policy direction but questioned execution speed.
A Lagos-based analyst, Tunde Alabi, said the housing programme showed ambition. Yet, he noted that implementation faced delays and funding challenges.
Similarly, development economist Dr. Amina Yusuf said Dangiwa made modest progress. She stressed that structural issues like land titling and weak mortgage systems slowed results.
Industry Concerns Persist
Meanwhile, private developers praised improved investor engagement. They also welcomed efforts to standardise processes.
Despite this, they raised concerns about high construction costs and inflation. Regulatory delays also continued to limit large-scale housing projects.
Public Opinion Remains Divided
Public reactions have also varied. Some Nigerians pointed to visible housing projects across states. Others argued that many units remain unaffordable for average citizens.
On social media, opinions ranged from praise for reforms to calls for stronger action. Many users emphasised the need to address Nigeria’s housing deficit.
What Lies Ahead for the Housing Sector
Dangiwa promised a smooth transition to the incoming minister. He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms will continue.
Experts believe the next phase should focus on results. They highlighted the need to expand housing finance and simplify land processes.
Ultimately, analysts say Dangiwa laid important groundwork. However, his successor must now deliver large-scale and affordable housing solutions.
