President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Tuesday, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his 2027 election ambitions.
New Leadership in Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry
The appointment signals a shift in Nigeria’s diplomatic leadership. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Now, she takes full charge of the ministry.
Meanwhile, the President nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. However, the Senate must confirm his appointment.
Profile of Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye
Before this nomination, Ambassador Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs. He also advised the President on international relations.
The Presidency describes him as a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of service. He earlier worked as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, he held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi. These roles strengthened his global experience.
Tinubu’s Foreign Policy Strategy
President Tinubu stated that these appointments aim to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy. He wants stronger global partnerships and improved strategic engagement.
Furthermore, he emphasized efficiency in diplomatic operations. His administration continues to focus on economic diplomacy and international cooperation.
